You may be eligible to receive up to a $1,000 incentive for recruiting a Full Time or Reserve Police Officer to LAPD!
As part of its effort to recruit LAPD officers, the City of Los Angeles is offering $1,000 for every candidate successfully recruited into LAPD. The PORIP program has resulted in a higher percentage of successful candidates entering and graduating from the LAPD academy than any other source. By taking an active interest in encouraging friends and family to consider a career in the LAPD, you are encouraging the best candidates and can receive a bonus for your efforts.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE INCENTIVE?
PORIP has previously been reserved as an incentive for active & retired City employees to recruit Police Officers. Recently, PORIP was expanded to include participation by Qualified Neighborhood Councils and non-profit organizations.
A Qualified Neighborhood Council is defined as a Neighborhood Council in the City of Los Angeles that, at the time the candidate is appointed to the Police Academy, has been certified by the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners, has an elected or selected board, or combination thereof; and is in compliance with the requirements of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) Funding Program.
A Qualified non-profit organization is defined as an organization that, at the time the candidate is appointed to the Police Academy, has tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, has obtained a valid Business Tax Exempt Number or Vendor Registration Number from the City of Los Angeles Office of Finance, and is in compliance with the applicable non-discrimination and affirmative action provisions of the laws of the United States of America, the State of California, and the City.
HOW DOES PORIP WORK?
First, recruit a candidate who will succeed in an exciting and rewarding career as a Police Officer or Reserve Police Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Next, the PORIP card must be received no later than 30 days after the candidate takes their Physical Abilities Test for the first time.
Then, the recruiter may verify the status by calling 213-473-9060 and asking for the PORIP analyst. It’s that easy!
Finally, it is the recruiter’s responsibility to submit the PORIP card to the Personnel Department (information on where to submit is located on the card). The PORIP card must be completed and signed by both the Candidate and the Recruiter.
HOW DO I RECEIVE PAYMENT?
The $1,000 incentive will be processed as follows: For Active & Retired City Employees $500 will be paid upon the Candidate’s appointment to the Police Academy and $500 will be paid when the Candidate Graduates from the Academy. For Reserve Officer referrals or by Neighborhood Council and Non-Profit Organizations, $1,000 will be paid when Candidate Graduates from Academy training. Incentive will not apply if all conditions are not met.
