Take the Multiple Choice Test Online or In-Person

The Multiple Choice (MC) Test is a test that evaluates your ability to read and write. There are four sections on the test:  Clarity, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, and Vocabulary. If you pass the MC test, your score does not expire. If you fail, you may retake the MC test after two months.

You can now waive the Multiple-Choice test if you satisfy any of the following conditions:‍

  • You have passed the multiple-choice test for the Associate Community Officer exam for the City of Los Angeles on or after November 5, 2021; or
  • Have successfully completed the California POST Regular Basic Course within the last three years; or
  • Possess a current Basic Course waiver; or
  • You have received a passing score on the FrontLine National Law Enforcement Examination administered by the National Testing Network (NTN) based on the criteria set by the City of Los Angeles.
  • Have taken the California POST Pellet-B test and earned an overall t-score of 42 or higher.

Candidates who feel that they qualify for a waiver can reach out to Angela Cheung at angela.cheung@lacity.org
